Fiery Furnaces Music Video for the Soundcheck WNYC Radio Contest

http://www.youtube.com/group/soundcheckcontest#play/recent

Zachary directed this music video (I produced it), for the WNYC Radio Soundcheck Music Video Contest.

Check it out.  The Fiery Furnaces is a cool band and this was a fun video to do.  We shot it with a little camera, the SONY HDR-CX100 completely shot in slow-motion in 3 second clips that were turned into 12 second slow motion clips.  He and I shot it with Zachary coming up with the concept, which I think was the coolest.  Our neighbor, Lucien Harriot of Mechanism Digital http://mechanismdigital.com/ helped with the effects and appears in it too.  John Giura and his girlfriend Malain http://johngiura.com/ appear as the couple having
coffee. I don't know if voting matters in the definitive choice for the winner, but voting always helps so, do it. Let us know what you think.  I think our story stands out........

The judge for the contest is Rik Cordero and you can learn about him by going to:

WISH US LUCK!

Directed by: Zachary Bennett
Produced by: Karen Nourse
Camera: Zachary Bennett & Karen Nourse
Digital Effects: Mechanism Digital (Lucien Harriot)
Starring: Zachary Bennett and Natalie Bennett
John Giura and Malain
Lucien Harriot

HBO Delivers Great Dialogue

When I have the chance to sit down and watch TV these days (mostly through my computer and Netflix), I have really been enjoying HBO and it's entertaining series', True Blood and Entourage. The dialogue these days on both of these shows is fresh and compelling and so good I sometimes write it down:

True Blood: Jason Merlotte to Sookie Stackhouse. Season 2, Episode 2
"I'm tired of charring my ass on your back burner!"

This line is delivered completely true and gave Sookie a real taste of what Jason feels for her. This new season has been creepy and dark, which I love in the vampire genre. Sookie's speechless reaction was based on the dead-on delivery of the dialogue and acting.

Entourage: Ari's son to Ari on being awoken.
"I'm waking you up with my mind".

This is realistic, clever dialogue that rings true to both characters completely. Ari here was woken up from sleeping on the couch, being
in the "doghouse" with his wife. This gives us an inkling of what this little Ari can really be like. The line was delivered absolutely deadpan, and again, good direction, good writing, extremely entertaining material out there on HBO.

Song Dong installation at MOMA

Natalie and I marvel at all thr stuff Dong's mother kept over the years. Most impressive was her collection of pens, pencils and drawing things.

dan le sac Vs scroobius pip videos

</object>

This video is old but it's still cool. The beginning is priceless. Love the little tyke walking around in his dinosaur suit. I love the low angles and close-ups on his face when he's on his adventure. Really good camera work on him and his sneakers. Scary at points which is cool as it makes you fear fear for the little boy. His angelic face in that suit contrasted with the darkness around him. I like how it ends a lot.

</object>

Like this one the best when the TV head is walking around. Less interested in the straight rapping stuff into camera. I'm
subscribed to these guys. Waiting for the new videos........

Yes, I am interested. This film was all the rage this year at Sundance, so it will be cool to see such a timely documentary released in NYC. Check out the trailer.

Inco's Cyclone

Here is a still from Inco's model of Coney Island.  We are working with her on the Lou Barlow video and her work is incredible.  Her ability to show these locations from a different perspective is the coolest.  The colors, the little people- it's all good and better than that, it makes me marvel at her attention to the detail.  I love how their hands are raised in the air, just like how all of us ride the Cyclone.  It's making  me happy just thinking about her.  She was selling some of her figures in Central Park last Sunday by the roller skating party near the bandshell.

TalkTalk, "Put Pocketing" in London

</object>

This is awesome. Funny idea and the footage of them putting money into unsuspecting individuals' pockets is the coolest. I found out about this by going to Creativity Online, http://creativity-online.com/work/talktalk-put-pocketing/17085#

Bruno Levy: 2 videos to watch and learn from

</object>

</object>

These videos are directed by Bruno Levy are pretty incredible. Like them both equally. They are both from Nepal I believe. The "Four Provinces" video for the Walkmen is free and easy. The
children and their dancing for the camera is pure and innocent. They look at the camera and take it in without any fear or mistrust. "Kusum" is more dramatic, showing us a very young dancer in her
preparation and follow-through for her evening of dancing in a club in Katmandu. This director captures these characters so vividly. While the girl in Kusum is more aware of herself in front of the
camera, the Director shows these "children" in two distinct ways without exploiting either. If this is all photography, this is a LOT of work so I'm not sure if it's all still images or not. The two videos tell a complete story in a very appealing manner. Will keep watching his work. HIs website is here: http://www.brunolevy.com/video.html

"Running the Sahara" guys and their Mac

"Running the Sahara" is a documentary from 2007 to watch if you're interested in extreme sports. These guys use a Mac and have been everywhere it seems from the South Pole to the Equator. Even though this is a Mac promo article, it still resonates once you have seen the film. You can also read their article from men's Journal and see some Youtube clips here: http://www.mensjournal.com/alone-across-the-ice

These guys are really interesting athletes and the film shows how extreme people cope in extreme situations.

David Lynch TV

http://dlf.tv/2009/zarosh/

I am fascinated by this new video channel by David Lynch. This one is long, 18 minutes, but it's satisfying. I love the way it's shot and how in-depth you get
on learning about Zarosh Eggleston. Other videos are so interesting that I am watching a lot of them. Lynch talks about his first meditation and while it's very short and succinct, he explains what happened to him in plain language. He also talks about silence and this was at a conference and has some shaky camera, it still keeps my interest. This guy is a HUGE when it comes to video and film. Years ago he had a subscription service online to his videos where he released some of his animation which is particularly appealing. It's great that's its all free now. He never seems to disappoint, even on the banal.

Tired child at 5:30pm

</object>

FYI, this movie is SILENT.  This is some test footage of Leo walking near our favorite playground in Chelsea.  He's been walking now for a month so it's been cool to see his progress.  This is using a new camera that shoots slow-mo and I am impressed with the quality.  It's smooth and clean and uses VERY short clips.  It's a Sony HDR-CX100 camera and shoots at 1920x1080.  It also fits in the palm of your hand.  Since it shoots to harddisk, it's hard to imagine backing up all this stuff, but I'm liking it here.

Imogen Heap: Canvas

</object>

This is cool filmmaking, music video-making material here. The lighted walking steps in snow give me a breath of fresh cold air on this steamy August night.
The snowflakes and the light filtered through the trees is what I like the best. It's hard to get flakes like that so maybe they are generated, but who cares, they are
appealing. It's a nice 5 minutes to absorb so take a break and watch. Heap's voice is mesmerizing and so beautifully synched to the images. Slow-mo is where it's at.
I am studying it for another video project we are doing. Shooting slow-mo at the speed you want to use it takes hours off your rendering time, and wouldn't you rather
spend time outside in the field, than behind a desk? Wish I knew more about this production team who did it.
