Fatih Akin: The Auteurs: Film Review of "Head On"

I really enjoyed watching this film on Netflix tonight. "Head On" was powerful, and who cares that it's 5 years old. It tells the story of Cahit and Sibel and their unusual connection. It's surprising, with great actors and direction punctuated by mind-blowing sensuality and violence. I love stories of cross cultural divides that lead us to a greater understanding. Reminds me a little of Stephen Frears brilliant, "Dirty Pretty Things" (2003) that showed desperation in a new light.

There were poignant scenes interwoven with traditional Turkish music that matched and led the mood in a loving way. The ebb and flow of the characters' journey made me want to make important films like Akin. Truly his film is about knowing yourself and human's boundless ability to confound suffering. Watch it as you won't be disappointed. I like this new site too, The Auteurs too. Looks like you can watch an interesting film for free on the site and this month it's a Turkish film too. Like the interesting tidbits about the directors and the focus on showing cool, hard to see films.
