I really enjoyed last week's article about Vincent Van Gogh in the New Yorker about the myth of his cutting off his ear and more. From this, I spoke to Rick Hamlin, whose wife [Carol Wallace of The Preppy Handbook fame] is writing a new book about Van Gogh and he recommended I check out the Van Gogh Museum's site as they have digitized his letters and have made searching through them into a lovely kind of game. You can see the letter, read along in English and go to the specific artwork mentioned or created during the period. It's really cool. http://vangoghletters.org/vg/letters/let875/letter.html
They also made a new app for the IPhone. I love listening to the letters and checking out the interviews with experts and seeing more visuals from him and his influences. My only complaint is that all the material doesn't play in a sort of chronology, but it seems like a podcast would be next anyway. It's fascinating and worth it as it's FREE!
