Syd Straw at City Winery

We worked with Syd in 2003 on a film by JC Hopkins, "Love, Hunger, Betrayal and Forgiveness" , that is unfortunately still to be released. But here Syd was very much in fine form, belting out the tunes in this very hip downtown place. She was amazing-sang her own tunes, some from Neil Young ("Birds" from Hawks and Doves) and a lovely Vic Chestnut song for his memory, (Chestnut died Christmas Day 2009). She also played a cool Ellie Greenwich song I can't remember now. "What's New Pussycat" was a highlight with the actor Mark Boone Jr (he sang the Vic Chestnut song too).

Zack and I had heard that her "Heartbreak Show" was something to experience and were both infused with renewed love of her music and style. Syd blew everyone away with her personality-taking requests and bringing up friends in the audience to perform. There's nothing like the lady Syd Straw!
